Contribute to the Legal Fund
to help us represent our community
Contributions submitted here are for legal fees only. They are tracked separately from general donations, and the amount raised and spent will be reported publicly.
What the Contributions Are Used For
The first drive raised $2,705 from 38 contributors. It covered the $2,500 engagement fee for an independent legal opinion on whether the county's amendment prohibits data centers. Any donations now will go toward the next steps in the legal process or future efforts to protect Frederick County residents from data centers, transmission lines, or any incompatible developments.
- Potential Follow-up Work with CounselWe may need to ask questions arising from the opinion, and review of whatever ordinance text the Board adopts on September 23. Additionally, if the language changes between now and the vote, someone qualified needs to tell us what the new version does.
- Lawyer RetainerA retainer is a payment made to secure a lawyer's services for a specific matter. This contribution will help ensure we have qualified legal representation throughout the legal process.
- Future Legal EffortsStarting a fund after the need arrives will cost us time we may not have. We believe this will not be the last legal challenge we will encounter, and we want to be ready.
Legal fund contributions are tracked and reported publicly. See the current balance for every dollar raised, as well as the processing fees. We disclose how much has and has not been spent.
